Kirsten Dunst Banned Writer From Set | Brigid Brown
5th September 2008 |
|
Kirsten Dunst has been acting since she was a child--she's constantly criticized for her fashion choices and even the men she's dated--but she draws the like when it comes to her skills in front of the camera. Dunst banned a writer from the set of her new movie after he allegedly criticized her acting ability, according to WENN.British novelist Toby Young wrote the book on which the actress's new film is based, How to Lose Friends & Alienate People, and visited the set on several occasions. And on his second visit, Young made comments regarding Dunst's performance to a producer and it led to the actress asking movie bosses to bar him from the studio. Young is frank and to the point saying, 'She overheard me giving the producer a ‘note’ on her performance in a particular scene. At the time, I didn't think of it as a criticism, more as a helpful bit of advice, and the producer took it in that spirit.' He explains, 'But Kirsten overheard this exchange and interpreted it as a complaint about her acting ability. It was after this, apparently, that she took Bob (Weide, the director) to one side and asked if I could be kept at arm’s length in future.' Young didn't realize the problem at first going on to say, 'Bob carried out this edict with a good deal of tact. I didn't realize it, but this was, in effect, Bob carrying out Kirsten’s instructions,' reports WENN.The British are so polite--the writer is banned from the making of the film adapation of his own book--and he takes it in such stride. Wonder what he says behind closed doors. |

Don Lafontaine, The King of Trailer Voiceovers, Dies | Kit Bowen
3rd September 2008 |
| |
No longer will we hear that deep voice boom, “In a world where…” at the beginning of a movie trailer. Voiceover actor Don LaFontaine, whose catch phrase will live on, has died. He was 68. LaFontaine died Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from complications in the treatment of an ongoing illness, Vanessa Gilbert, his agent, told The Associated Press. In his 33-year career, LaFontaine made more than 5,000 trailers and never cared if anyone knew his name or his face. Of course, he became a little more well known after appearing in Geico car insurance commercials, in which he played himself telling a customer, 'In a world where both of our cars were totally under water...' In an interview with AP last year, LaFontaine explained the strategy behind the phrase. 'We have to very rapidly establish the world we are transporting them to,' he said of his viewers. 'That's very easily done by saying, ‘In a world where ... violence rules.' `In a world where ... men are slaves and women are the conquerors.' You very rapidly set the scene.' LaFontaine had worked in the promo industry as an audio engineer since the early 1960s but in an instant became a star with an announcer in 1965 didn’t show up for a recording session, a promo for the film Gunfighters of Casa Grande, leaving it up to a young LaFontaine to fill in. The rest, shall we say, is history. LaFontaine remained active until recently, averaging seven to 10 voiceover sessions a day. He worked from a home studio his wife nicknamed 'The Hole,' where his fax machine delivered scripts, AP reports. LaFontaine is survived by his wife, the singer and actress Nita Whitaker, and three daughters. His funeral arrangements were pending. |

Josh Harnett in Hotel Library Romp? | WENN
3rd September 2008 |
| |
Actor Josh Hartnett has reportedly received a verbal warning from security bosses at a London hotel after he was allegedly caught on camera getting intimate with a female friend in a public library. The Pearl Harbor star, who is preparing to take to the London stage for a theatre adaptation of Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise's movie Rain Man, was allegedly spotted enjoying a frisky romp with an unidentified female at the Soho Hotel--and security guards witnessed Hartnett's every move. They were forced to warn him not to repeat his steamy actions. A source tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, 'Josh and the girl were getting pretty hot and heavy. After stumbling in quite late, they legged it (ran) to the library and immediately closed all the curtains so that no one could see in. 'Unfortunately the hotel has security cameras all over the place--the library included. This means their every spit and cough was recorded, and cringing hotel workers saw all of Josh's X-rated moves. 'No one quite knew where to look and there was a very awkward silence. Josh didn't seem bothered that the library wasn't locked and anyone could just burst in. He just kind of went for it. 'After the event, someone had a quiet word in Josh's ear and he was asked to take his personal business elsewhere in future. Josh took it on the chin (acknowledged it) and didn't kick up a fuss. He's been as good as gold since.' Hartnett's stint on the West End stage was due to start on Tuesday, but has been delayed until next week because director Terry Johnson insists the play is not quite ready. |
